4796A 2-year-old girl from Fergana underwent surgery to remove 135 magnetic balls from her stomach, according to a report from the Ministry of Health.
The incident occurred when the child, while playing with magnetic balls, swallowed a significant number of them over time. The accumulation of the magnets in her stomach posed a serious threat to her life.
The girl’s parents promptly sought help at the Fergana regional branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care. Initial examinations revealed that the magnets had clustered on both sides of her stomach. Doctors began conservative treatment and managed to remove 14 of the balls, but the majority remained lodged inside.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the parents took their daughter to Tashkent, to the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care. There, the child underwent another examination, and surgery was immediately performed.
Thanks to the efforts of the medical team, all 135 magnetic balls were successfully removed.
"At present, the child is in good condition and under medical supervision," the report stated.
It is worth noting that a similar incident occurred in Kazakhstan, where surgeons at the Akmola Regional Children's Hospital performed a complex five-hour operation to save a four-year-old boy who had swallowed 37 magnetic balls.
