Mahalla chairman dies after attending governor’s session in Fergana

In Furkat district of Uzbekistan's Fergana region, the chairman of a mahalla (local community council) passed away shortly after attending a district administration meeting. This was confirmed by the press service of the Furkat district administration.

According to the official report, on June 18, a district meeting was held with the participation of mahalla citizens’ assemblies, during which tasks were assigned by the district administration. The session was chaired by the district governor, Elyorbek Asrankulov.

Sharifjon Abdullayev, spokesperson for the district administration, stated that after leaving the meeting hall, the mahalla chairman suddenly fell ill. He was immediately taken to the district medical association’s facility. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he could not be saved.

For reference, Elyorbek Asrankulov was appointed as the governor of Furkat district in August 2024.

It is worth noting that a similar incident occurred earlier, when a mahalla chairman died during a session held in the Almazar district administration.
