4450In a recent session of the Jizzakh Regional Council of People's Deputies, Ergash Alibekovich Soliyev was confirmed as governor of the Jizzakh region. His nomination was presented by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and approved unanimously by the council members. This session, marking the first of the seventh convocation, also saw the election of Parda Shukurovich Shukurov as chairman of the Council of People's Deputies.
Soliyev, born on July 17, 1956, in Forish district, Jizzakh, is a seasoned leader with a notable career. He is a graduate of Samarkand State University and was awarded the "Dostlik" Order in 2005. Previously, he held various roles including rector of the Jizzakh State Polytechnic Institute and governor of Pakhtakor and Arnasoy districts. Since 2017, he has served as governor of Jizzakh, making him a prominent figure in regional governance.
As outlined by Uzbek legislation, regional governors are appointed by the President, following consultations with party groups. Under Article 2 of the Law "On Local State Power," governors have a five-year term, with no eligibility to serve more than two consecutive terms in the same region. Their responsibilities include implementing national laws, Presidential decrees, and promoting economic, social, and cultural development within the region.
In related appointments, other governors recently confirmed include Erkinjon Turdimov in Samarkand, Jorabek Rahimov in Khorezm, and Normat Tursunov in Navoi, each formally approved by their respective regional councils.
