4458Individuals who voluntarily surrender air weapons to law enforcement agencies will not face legal consequences. This topic was addressed at the fifty-second plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis today, May 18.
At the plenary session, the Law "On Addition to Article 2201 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with the Improvement of Legislation on Weapons" was reviewed.
In Uzbekistan, the Law "On Weapons" was enacted to regulate the circulation of weapons and their ammunition.
The existing provision of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which exempts individuals who voluntarily surrender their illegally owned firearms from liability, does not address the issue of exempting individuals who voluntarily surrender other types of weapons.
According to current legislation, even if a citizen voluntarily hands over an air gun, the weapon can be confiscated. Additionally, citizens may be fined between fifteen and thirty times the base calculation amount, and officials may be fined between twenty-five and fifty times or face administrative imprisonment for up to fifteen days.
However, Article 248 of the Criminal Code states that individuals who voluntarily hand over firearms, which pose a higher public safety risk, are exempt from liability.
The law considered by the senators today amends Article 2201 of the Administrative Accountability Code, allowing for exemption from administrative liability for individuals who voluntarily surrender their illegally possessed pneumatic, alarm, bladed, projectile, and self-defense weapons.
After discussion, the senators approved the law.
