Detainees will now undergo a mandatory medical examination at the detention center itself before being placed in a pre-trial detention facility. This requirement is outlined in recent amendments to the Law “On Detention in Pre-Trial Detention.”
According to the amendments, a mandatory medical examination must be conducted within two hours from the time the detainee is brought to the pre-trial detention center.
With the consent of the detainee, their lawyer may also be present during the examination.
A medical certificate in the prescribed format will be issued based on the results of the examination.
Furthermore, if injuries, traumas, or wounds are discovered on the body of the detainee during the examination, they must be officially recorded, the detainee must be informed, and the prosecutor must be immediately notified.
It should be recalled that earlier, the Milliy Tiklanish party had developed a bill that would reduce a convict’s sentence by three days for each book they read. The initiative is aimed at enhancing the knowledge and culture of convicts, improving their social adaptation, and promoting their spiritual and moral development during the period of imprisonment. According to the bill, a convict who reads a book from an approved list and passes the required exam will have their sentence reduced by three days.
