In Uzbekistan, religious organizations and state bodies are prohibited from interfering in each other’s activities. This is outlined in the law "On Ensuring Freedom of Conscience of Citizens in the Republic of Uzbekistan and Approving the Concept of State Policy in the Religious Sphere," which was adopted on February 25.
According to the concept, the principle of the separation of religion from the state ensures that religious organizations and state institutions do not interfere in each other's affairs. The state does not delegate any official functions to religious organizations, nor does it permit religious organizations to perform state functions.
This principle is based on the fundamental values of a constitutional legal system, democracy, secularism, freedom, equality, humanism, social justice, solidarity, and human rights—regardless of religious beliefs.
