Cooperation with the leading universities of China will be established on the creation of saline and drought-resistant crop species and livestock breeds.  President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this today, 7 April, at the session of the Regional Council of People’s Deputies in Syrdarya.

The fact is that the head of state put forward 5 new initiatives aimed at increasing the well-being of the residents of Syrdarya.  As part of the third initiative, Chinese investors will be involved in the modernization of irrigation and reclamation systems in the Syrdarya.  In particular, 2 consultants from China will be brought to the governor of the region on the introduction of science and innovation in agriculture.

Also, with the help of Chinese experience, livestock and poultry eco-complexes will be established, and nutritious crop varieties such as corn, sorghum, alfalfa resistant to salt and drought will be planted.  Intensive pomegranate, melon, pecan and fishery plantations will be established, and a fruit and vegetable storage, processing and packaging technology park will be established.

It is reported that cooperation with the leading universities of China in this direction will be established on the creation of saline and drought-resistant crop species and livestock breeds.  It is planned to establish their branches, to train personnel for agriculture and water management, and to carry out scientific research in the field of land development, desertification, irrigation and ecology.
