The head of the Tashkent Department of Ecology is arrested in connection with the “Tree Massacre” in Chilanzor

Head of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection of the city of Tashkent, F.D. was arrested for cutting down 58 trees in the Chilanzar district.  This is reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to BP, F.D. who was working as the head of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection of the city of Tashkent, and whose main task is to monitor compliance with the requirements of legislation related to the environment and environmental protection, allegedly abused his authority and, by allowing trees to be removed, permitted their destruction.

Yesterday 9 September, he was detained as a suspect under article 205 para. 2 a. of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and detained under article 221 of the Criminal Code.

It should be recalled that on 7 September of the current year, a private construction company in the Chilanzar district of Tashkent uprooted 58 ornamental and fruit trees, despite a direct ban.

The State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection estimated that 797,700,000 soms worth of damage to nature had been caused by the cutting down of trees.  The head of the construction organization of the Prosecutor General’s Office said that the damage to nature was fully compensated for 797.7 million soms.

Criminal proceedings were instituted under article 198, para. 3, of the Criminal Code (damage or destruction of fields, forests, trees, or other plantations).
