Seeking answers to religious questions from ChatGPT and similar artificial intelligence platforms is not permissible from a religious perspective. This was stated by the Muslim Office.
According to the announcement, AI platforms like ChatGPT are not capable of providing accurate responses to religious inquiries.
“It is true that the ChatGPT platform is useful in some areas. However, it is not capable of answering religious questions correctly, as it is a product developed by human beings,” the statement said.
The office emphasized that while ChatGPT may sometimes provide seemingly accurate responses or reference Arabic phrases and religious texts, the sources it mentions often do not contain the quoted material.
“For example, the platform might claim that a certain statement is found in a particular book, but such a statement may not exist in that book or in any other reliable fiqh sources. Therefore, when resolving religious issues, it is important to consult scholars and experts in the field,” the statement added.
It is worth noting that OpenAI, the US-based company that developed ChatGPT, was previously registered in Uzbekistan as a foreign provider of electronic services. As a result, it is subject to taxation in the country.
