On May 5 of this year, 43-year-old Abdumannop Samikov drowned in the Borijar Canal in Tashkent while attempting to rescue two girls. In recognition of the bravery shown during the incident, Nurmuhammad Mamasaliyev, an employee of the Borijar Sports Complex who played a key role in saving the girls and tried to rescue Samikov, has been awarded the “Courage” medal. A presidential decree to this effect was signed on June 3.

It was noted that the Head of State took this act of heroism to heart and extended his condolences to the wife and children of the deceased.

“Two girls living in the Yakkasaray district fell into the canal. Witnessing this, our brave and selfless compatriot Abdumannop Samikov jumped into the water and saved the girls. Sadly, during the rescue, a tragic accident occurred—he lost his own life while performing this noble act.

As it turns out, Abdumannop Samikov was a patriotic and compassionate individual, always ready to help others and contribute to society.

This event once again reflects our country’s commitment to honoring human dignity and recognizing the heroes of our homeland. In a strong and kind society, such humanity is never forgotten,” wrote the Presidential Press Secretary.

As a reminder, the Borijar Canal has seen multiple drowning incidents in recent years. In April of last year, a five-year-old boy, a woman, and a man drowned in a section of the canal in the Chilanzar district. In June, a student drowned in the same canal, and in August, the body of a 73-year-old man was recovered from its waters.
