A man who fatally stabbed his daughter-in-law during a domestic dispute in the city of Kogon, Bukhara region, has been sentenced to seven years in prison. The information was confirmed by Aziz Obidov, press secretary of the Supreme Court.

The verdict for the crime, which took place at the end of 2024, was delivered in June this year.

According to the court records, 68-year-old V.K., originally from the Tashkent region but a long-term resident of Kogon, had ongoing tensions with neighbors and frequent conflicts with family members, largely due to alcohol abuse. He had a strained relationship with his daughter-in-law, D.I., who lived with his son, D.K.

The incident began with a verbal altercation between V.K. and his daughter-in-law. After the argument, D.I. went outside to clean the porch and sidewalk. Upon her return, she found the door locked from the inside. When she asked to be let in, her father-in-law reportedly shouted, “Go back to where you came from.”

She sat on a bench outside for a while until the father-in-law opened the door and called her back in. Once inside, the argument escalated. The daughter-in-law allegedly pushed her father-in-law and struck him. In response, the intoxicated man grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her multiple times in the abdomen and stomach.

The injured woman managed to reach the street and call for help, but despite emergency medical assistance, she died in the hospital.

During the trial, the defendant expressed regret, cited his poor health and pensioner status, and requested a fair judgment. He was charged under Article 97 of the Criminal Code (intentional murder) and sentenced to seven years in prison by the Kogon City Court on criminal cases.

As a reminder, a similar tragic case occurred earlier in the Gurlan district of the Khorezm region, where a father-in-law beat his daughter-in-law to death while her husband was working abroad in Russia.
