Uzbekistan national team head coach Fabio Cannavaro shared his thoughts after the match against Portugal.
“Of course, it was clear that a first-ever appearance at the World Cup would not be easy. After the draw results came out and we saw opponents such as Colombia and Portugal, we knew a very difficult group was waiting for us. After the match against Colombia, I said I was proud of my team. I feel the same today. I saw my players on the pitch. Yes, they faced difficulties, but they did not give up for a single second,” Cannavaro said.
Cannavaro also emphasized that it is always difficult to play against a team that has high-level players in every line.
“Portugal have top-level performers, and today they took the field with great motivation. But as I have said before, this World Cup is an important experience for us. Through this tournament, we must grow, draw conclusions and return as a stronger team for the future,” the Uzbekistan national team coach said.
For reference, Uzbekistan suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat against Portugal in the match held in Houston.
