By the end of 2023, Uzbekistan saw an 11% reduction in poverty, thanks to efforts that helped 3.5 million people become gainfully employed. This was announced today, September 11, during a video conference led by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which focused on measures to reduce poverty in neighborhoods and elevate the support system for poor families.

It was reported that four years ago, 7.5 million people, or 23% of the population, had incomes below the poverty line. During this period, the population increased by 3.7 million, and the poverty threshold rose by 1.5 times.

Social protection coverage has expanded 4.5 times, from 466,000 families to 2.2 million, with 12.3 trillion sums allocated for these purposes last year. Additionally, pensions and allowances have increased by 1.5 times.

As of May this year, the minimum consumption expenses used to determine the poverty line in Uzbekistan were increased, now set at 648,000 sums per person per month.
