The Botanical Garden remains under the jurisdiction of the Academy of Sciences, as stated by Saida Mirziyoyeva, the eldest daughter of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on her social media page.
"The Botanical Garden is not merely an entertainment venue; it is the 'lung' of Tashkent, essential for the daily life of our entire city. It represents a history we take pride in. For over 70 years, our talented scientists have nurtured valuable trees and plants within this garden, imbuing them with their love. There is no comparable facility elsewhere in our country," expressed the President's assistant.
Mirziyoyeva emphasized that it is the collective responsibility of herself, all officials, and citizens to safeguard this natural treasure, protect it, and pass it down to future generations.
"I vehemently oppose transferring the Botanical Garden to the control of commercial entities. Not an inch of it should be leased or developed. This garden was established by scientists and should remain under the purview of scientists, serving all Uzbek citizens. It will continue to be managed by the Academy of Sciences," Saida Mirziyoyeva affirmed.
It is worth noting that the Academy of Sciences previously protested against this proposed decision and submitted its suggestions for preserving the "Botanical" garden through the project.gov.uz platform.
The State Assets Management Agency, in its official statement on this matter, explained that the decision to transfer the Botanical Garden's administration to the governorate was prompted by instances of unlawful property and land alienation belonging to the state's cultural and recreational parks, which raised concerns.
Subsequently, the Tashkent city administration clarified that they had not assumed control of the Botanical Garden and had no intentions of converting it into a recreational park.
