Two arrested for deceiving Prosecutor's Department employees and stealing money

Two individuals who deceived employees of the Navoi Regional Department of the General Prosecutor's Office and stole money from an urgent operation have been arrested, according to a court verdict obtained by QALAMPIR.UZ.

According to the court document, the defendant J.S., born in 1992, who had been convicted multiple times before, applied to the Navoi Regional Department on June 26, 2024. In his application, J.S. claimed that a person named "Feruz" was demanding 700 US dollars in exchange for a driver's license and requested legal action against him.

Following J.S.'s complaint, an urgent operation was conducted by the Navoi Regional Department in cooperation with local police. During the operation, J.S.'s accomplice, Sh.I., born in 1996, took 700 US dollars and a special recording device from the department’s cash desk. Sh.I. then fled the scene and used the money allocated for the operation for his personal expenses.

In the December 6, 2024, trial at the Navoi City Criminal Court, J.S. fully confessed to his role and confirmed his statements from the preliminary investigation. He explained that he had met Sh.I. in April-May 2024 and later asked for his advice on how to earn money due to his child’s illness. Sh.I. introduced J.S. to S.Kh., an employee of the Navoi Regional Department. Sh.I. claimed to have good relations with the department and suggested that money could be made through it.

J.S. applied to the department, falsely claiming that a fictitious person had illegally demanded money from him, and asked for legal action. He was provided with 700 US dollars and a voice recorder for the operation.

At the designated location, J.S. turned off his phone, hid from the scene, and took the money and recorder for himself. He later exchanged some of the dollars for soums, bought clothes, and used the remaining money for personal expenses. Sh.I. also fully confessed to his actions in court.

The court sentenced J.S. to 4 years and 1 month in prison for fraud and false reporting. He will serve his sentence in a strict-regime colony. Sh.I. received a 2-year, 1-month sentence to be served in a general-regime colony.

Earlier, an IAD officer who had beaten a defendant's brother to death at the Bekabad City IAD building in Tashkent region was sentenced to 9 years in prison.
