Effective January 1, 2024, orphanages, child protection departments, and family orphanages are now under the purview of the National Agency for Social Protection. This directive is outlined in the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan titled "On comprehensive measures to provide high-quality social services and assistance to the population and establish an effective control system."
Previously, orphanages fell under the Ministry of Health, orphanages under the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, and Child Protection Departments and family orphanages were supervised by local executive authorities.
The overarching objective behind this transfer is to establish a cohesive state policy and management system in the realm of social protection for the population, as stated in the report.
