Awards named after Mahmudkhodja Behbudi, one of the leaders of the Jadid movement, educator, writer, publicist, playwright, and public figure, as well as theater and film actor and director Bakhodir Yuldashev, are being established in Uzbekistan. This is stated in the regulations “On the Mahmudkhodja Behbudi Prize for Playwrights” and “On the Bakhodir Yuldashev Prize for Young Directors,” adopted by government resolution No. 606 on September 27 of this year.

According to these regulations, a competition will be held every two years to determine the winners of the awards.

The prizes will be awarded to directors and playwrights who are actively working in the fields of directing and dramaturgy for their significant contribution to enriching theater repertoires with stage works on topical issues.

The winners will receive a one-time cash prize equivalent to 50 times the minimum wage (20 million 600 thousand soums), as well as diplomas and statuettes.

Proposals for awarding artists are submitted by relevant organizations to the Ministry of Culture. The Ministry will review the submitted candidates and forward them to the relevant commission by February 1 of the competition year. The commission will examine the candidates’ documents by March 1 and make the final decision on the most deserving recipient of each award.

The prizes will be presented at a ceremonial event by the Minister of Culture or his deputy on the eve of March 27 – International Theater Day.
