2197A meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (TTO) was held on May 21 in Budapest, Hungary, as part of the informal summit of the Organization's Council of Heads of State.
The meeting was hosted by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó. It was attended by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, and TTO Secretary General Kubanichbek Omuraliev.
The foreign ministers exchanged views on the key topics to be discussed during the summit, which was held under the theme “The Meeting Point of East and West.” Secretary General Omuraliev briefed the ministers on the work carried out since the Bishkek Summit and presented draft documents and agenda items proposed for adoption at the summit.
During the discussions, the ministers emphasized the strategic importance of the Organization of Turkic States as a platform for inclusive dialogue, regional connectivity, and shared prosperity. They reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in priority areas such as transportation, trade, energy, digitalization, education, and the preservation of cultural heritage. The significance of the TTO’s representative office in Budapest was also noted.
The meeting provided an opportunity to assess ongoing joint initiatives and explore mechanisms to further deepen multilateral cooperation among the Turkic states.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the following documents were signed:
- A decision on the appointment of the Executive Director of the Representative Office of the Organization of Turkic States in Hungary;
- A decision on granting observer status to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the Turkic Academy.
However, representatives from two other observer states of the TTO — Turkmenistan and the (unrecognized) Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus — did not participate in the meeting.
