Heatwave alert: Uzhydromet issues nationwide weather warning

April of this year was significantly warmer than average across Uzbekistan, according to a report from Uzhydromet.

In the first half of the month, average air temperatures exceeded the climatic norm by 4–7 degrees Celsius. Daily maximum temperatures generally ranged between 23–28°C, and on the warmest days reached 30–32°C. In the northern, southern, and desert regions, the mercury climbed to 34–36°C.

Between April 18 and 20, temperatures dropped sharply, falling 3–8 degrees below normal. However, this spell of cool weather was short-lived. By the start of the third ten-day period of the month, temperatures began rising again.

The warmest period of the month occurred from April 26–27 in the north, and April 27–28 in the rest of the country. During this time, daytime temperatures reached 35–37°C, with southern and desert areas experiencing highs of 38–39°C.

The average monthly air temperature across the country was 3–5 degrees above normal. In the Fergana Valley, the increase was slightly more moderate, with temperatures exceeding the norm by 1.5–2.5 degrees. As a result, April 2025 extended the ongoing trend of unusually warm Aprils observed in recent years.

Precipitation levels in April were notably low, making it a very dry month. Light to moderate rainfall occurred on 2–3 days in both the first and second ten-day periods, and on 4–5 days in mountainous regions.

Heavy rainfall was recorded in some mountainous and foothill areas for 2–3 days, with daily precipitation ranging from 15 mm to 27 mm, and reaching up to 45 mm in the mountainous zones of the Tashkent region, such as Maydontal.

The third ten-day period of April was mostly dry across the country. In most regions, monthly precipitation totals fell below the climatic norm. Exceptions included parts of the Fergana Valley, as well as certain areas in the Khorezm and Navoi regions, where rainfall met or even exceeded expected levels.

It should be noted that Uzhydromet has also published its weather data for May 2025.
