Deadly gas explosion in Andijan: one fatality, three injured

4408On January 3, a gas explosion in Marhamat district, Andijan region, resulted in the death of one family member and injuries to three others. The incident occurred when a homemade heating stove ignited, causing a flash fire. Hayot Shamsutdinov, the press secretary of the General Prosecutor's Office, provided this information in response to a request from QALAMPIR.UZ.
According to reports, at approximately 03:00, H.Sh. attempted to light the stove in the living room’s bedroom area. As he struck a match, accumulated natural gas mixed with air ignited, triggering the explosion. H.Sh. sustained burns covering 90 percent of his body. His wife, L.Sh., suffered burns to 35-40 percent of her body, while his son, J.H., sustained burns over 20-30 percent. Their daughter, X.H., was admitted with burns covering 70 percent of her body.
Following the incident, the district prosecutor, an investigator, and officials from the Internal Affairs Department, Emergency Situations Department, and district gas supply branch arrived at the scene. A rapid investigation team was also deployed, and procedural documents were compiled.
Currently, H.Sh. and his son, J.H., are receiving treatment at the district hospital. L.Sh. has been transferred to the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Emergency Medical Care in Andijan. Tragically, despite medical efforts, the couple’s minor daughter, X.H., succumbed to her injuries on January 4.
The district prosecutor's office has ordered a forensic medical examination of the victims. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the explosion is ongoing, and further details will be provided upon its conclusion.
This incident follows a similar tragedy in Bukhara region, where a gas explosion claimed the lives of two family members and left two others severely burned.
