Was a child thief caught in Andijan?

Video messages have been circulating on social media claiming that a child thief was caught in the Shahrikhan district of the Andijan region. The regional Department of Internal Affairs has responded to the situation.

It was noted that the Andijan Regional Department of Internal Affairs is investigating the incident shown in the video. As it turned out, on July 31 at 15:40, a resident of the “Cho‘ja” neighborhood in the Shahrikhan district, Ganisher Orinbayev, called the 102 emergency line to report that an unknown individual had broken into his apartment.

When the regional prevention inspector arrived at the scene and clarified the situation, it was revealed that the individual in question was a mentally ill person born in 1986, living on Yangi Kadam Street in the “Bo‘ston” mahalla of the Shahrikhan district. He has been registered as having a mental illness (D) since 2019. On the same day, the regional prevention inspector placed him in the Andijan Regional Psychoneurological Dispensary for treatment.

“The reports being spread on social media about the arrest of a child thief are completely unfounded. In this regard, we urge all social media users not to disseminate false information and to rely on official sources,” the statement said.

It should be noted that earlier reports about a “wild” person appearing in the Beshariq district of the Fergana region and attacking women and children were also officially denied.
