A deputy governor of Andijan region has been caught taking a $15,000 bribe, the State Security Service (SSS) reported.
According to the report, the deputy governor of Markhamat district, abusing his official position, arranged to transfer a 400-meter stretch of land along the district’s main road into a closed system. He then demanded $15,000 from a citizen in exchange for allocating land for the construction of eight shops, each 30 square meters in size, on a 60-hectare area, and for processing the necessary documents through his high-level contacts. He initially received $200 as an advance payment.
During an urgent operation carried out jointly by the State Security Service and the Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office, the deputy governor was detained while receiving the remaining $14,800, with material evidence seized.
