New mayor appointed to Andijan city

Elyorbek Rahmatillaevich Karimov has been appointed as the mayor of Andijan city in the Andijan region. This was reported by the press service of the regional government.

Elyorbek Karimov was born in 1986 in the Izboskan district. In 2008, he graduated from the Andijan Agricultural Institute.

Over the course of his career, he has held responsible positions in district and regional departments of the treasury and financial system. He has also served as the first deputy mayor of the Izboskan district, first deputy head of the regional department for investment, industry and trade, and head of the Andijan regional territorial department of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

Prior to this appointment, he was serving as the mayor of Izboskan district.

The former mayor of Andijan city, Gafurjon Abdurakhmonov, had held the post since June 14, 2022. According to reports on social media, he was summoned to the regional administration on April 19 and made to submit a resignation letter. It is believed that the decision may be linked to an incident in which the head of the city’s employment department was found to have used psychotropic substances during working hours.
