“Andijan headdress” receives official geographical indication status

3836The “Andijan headdress” has been officially registered as a geographical indication by the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan, according to a statement released by the ministry’s press service.
This traditional headdress is distinguished by its high-quality fabrics, intricate patterns, unique shape, and rich symbolic and aesthetic significance. Rooted in the craft traditions, embroidery school, and cultural symbols of the Andijan region, the headdress holds a special place of respect and recognition among the local population.
The registration as a geographical indication formally establishes the Andijan headdress’s region of origin and provides legal protection for its quality and cultural heritage.
For reference, a geographical indication is a form of intellectual property that identifies a product as originating from a specific region, with qualities or a reputation that are intrinsically linked to its natural, human, or historical characteristics.
It is worth noting that several other Uzbek products have recently received similar recognition. On August 24, 2023, “Gijduvon shashlik” was registered, followed by “Guzor tandoori meat” on January 8, 2024, the internationally renowned “Samarkand bread” on February 4, and “Khorezm tukhumbaragi” in June.
