One of the assassins of Allamjonov was arrested

A suspect involved in the attempted assassination of Kamil Allamjonov, a former official of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, has been apprehended. The General Prosecutor's Office reported this development.

According to their statement, one of the assailants was identified and taken into custody during the investigation and swift search operations.

How did the incident occur?

On October 26 at 1:40 a.m., two unknown individuals fired multiple gunshots at a Range Rover driven by citizen S.S. as it was traveling along Ifor Street in the Kibray district, before quickly fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured.

In response, the General Prosecutor's Office launched a criminal case under Articles 25, 97 (Attempt to Commit Murder) and 248 (Illegal Possession of Firearms, Ammunition, Main Parts of Firearms, Explosives, or Explosive Devices) of the Criminal Code. An investigative team comprising members from the General Prosecutor's Office, Tashkent Region, Tashkent City, Military and Transport Prosecutor’s Offices, and personnel from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Tashkent Regional and City Departments of Internal Affairs, and the Customs Committee has been established.

Kamil Allamjonov was born on September 18, 1984, in Tashkent. He began his career in the “Davr” news program on the “Yoshlar” television and radio channel under the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan.

Allamjonov first gained prominence while serving as the head of the Press Service of the State Tax Committee from 2005 to 2013. From December 1, 2017, to October 3, 2018, he served as the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan and as the President’s Press Secretary.

On November 29, 2018, he was appointed Director of the Information and Mass Communications Agency. He left this position in January 2020 to become Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Public Fund for the Support and Development of the National Mass Media. In July 2022, Allamjonov was appointed Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, and in August 2023, he was named Head of the Information Policy Department within the Administration. He served in this role until September 2024.
