Uzbek man convicted of sex crimes detained in Maryland

20075A Uzbek national convicted of sex crimes has been arrested in the US state of Maryland. This was reported by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
It is clarified that 65-year-old I.G. entered the United States legally in October 2015. Later, he violated the conditions of entry. In August 2024, the man was arrested on charges of committing a fourth-degree felony (sex crime). In December of that year, he was found guilty and sentenced to three years of probation.
In early February of this year, he was arrested again on charges of committing the same crime.
“These arrests mean that one less predator and one less potential victim are on our streets. Our main goal is public safety and the protection of the people of Maryland. "We will continue to work tirelessly to bring to justice those who endanger our communities," the statement said.
As a reminder, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) had previously arrested 100 people, including citizens of Uzbekistan, in Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, on charges of violating federal immigration laws as of February 3.
