Former Deputy Speaker of Afghanistan’s Parliament Abbas Ibrohimzada has been arrested in Tashkent and has been held in custody since last week, Amu reported, citing its sources.
According to the report, Ibrohimzada was detained on September 24 based on several complaints filed by his business rivals. Despite reportedly paying a bail exceeding $350,000, he has not yet been released.
Sources claim that over the past four years, Ibrohimzada has invested more than $50 million in Uzbekistan, mainly in the commercial transport and flour production sectors. His arrest has raised concerns about potential disruptions to the operations of his companies. Ibrohimzada has not commented on the case so far.
Abbas Ibrohimzada was born in 1970 in the Sholgara district of Balkh province. He completed his secondary education at the “Bakhtar” school in Mazar-i-Sharif. He served as a member of Afghanistan’s Parliament representing Balkh province during its 16th convocation.
Locals reportedly refer to him as ’’Abbas dollar’’ due to his immense wealth and active involvement in Afghanistan’s oil and gas industry.
