Between January and October of this year, that is, in the nine months of 2022, a total of 6,449 road traffic accidents occurred in Uzbekistan.  As a result of these car accidents, 1494 people died.  Mashrab Razzakov, head of the Center for the Study of Traffic Safety Problems, provided information about this.

Razzokov explained that the reason for accidents is that the road infrastructure is not well organized.  In other words, 49.3 percent of road traffic accidents occurred due to poor road infrastructure.

Also, reasons related to the pedestrian crossings and the human factor also caused accidents. Such traffic accidents occurred due to the lack of pedestrian crossings in 884 places, and the lack of bicycle lanes in 822 cases.  This means 8.1 percent of the total GDP.

In addition, 509 traffic accidents were caused by the failure to install road dividers.

In 381 incidents, Razzokov cited the lack of road lighting as the reason.  He said that the same number of accidents occurred due to the lack of barriers restricting the movement of pedestrians. The expert also warned that the road is not adapted to the traffic flow, wet conditions and ice can also cause accidents.

The head of the center for the study of traffic safety problems said that in 1315 cases of accidents caused by the human factor, drivers exceeded the speed limit.  This is 20.1% of the total number of car accidents.  Other reasons include: inexperienced drivers (445 cases), failure to keep a safe road distance (354 cases), failure to give way to pedestrians (362 cases), failure to obey traffic lights or traffic signs (148 cases), compliance with the rule of overtaking committed as a result of non-compliance (187 cases).
