This year, new hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 162 megawatts will be commissioned in the Tashkent, Namangan, Kashkadarya, and Surkhandarya regions. The announcement was made on July 21, during a presentation attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which focused on cooperation with foreign partners in the oil and gas sector and preparations for the upcoming autumn-winter season.
It was reported that these hydropower stations are expected to generate 648 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
At the presentation, officials also provided updates on ongoing international partnerships and shared future development plans. The President instructed relevant authorities to develop specific projects for prospective fields and to establish a complete value chain—from geological exploration to the production of finished goods.
The need to increase oil and gas output was also highlighted. Officials were tasked with introducing new drilling technologies and enhancing the efficiency of wells in existing foreign and joint ventures.
Preparations for the autumn-winter season were another key point of discussion. Measures are being implemented to generate adequate energy, stock it in gas storage facilities, and ensure a balanced and reliable supply across the country.
It was also noted that two 1,650-megawatt combined cycle power units are under construction at the Talimarjon thermal power plant, alongside a 1,573-megawatt thermal power station in the Syrdarya region. Together, they are expected to generate up to 20 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.
The meeting concluded with a call to consistently modernize the energy infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted energy supply.
It should be noted that Tashkent recently experienced power outages. Regional Electric Networks JSC attributed the disruptions to ongoing preparations for the upcoming cold season.
