In line with presidential directives, Tashkent is set to purchase an additional 1,000 buses in 2025, as announced by Minister of Transport Ilhom Mahkamov in an interview with Uzbekistan 24 TV on January 11.

A draft law aimed at further developing public transport in Tashkent will be completed by February 1, with a dedicated program also expected to be adopted, according to Mahkamov.

Additionally, 675 new infokiosks will be installed at bus stops across the city to facilitate the purchase of single-use tickets. The Minister emphasized that passengers can already pay for fares using transport (ATTO) cards, bank cards, or mobile banking apps.

The Ministry's presentation revealed that a total of 5,100 infokiosks are planned, with 769 currently installed at bus stops. Passenger flow on buses has surged by 43.5% from January 1 to 10, rising from 871,000 to 1.19 million passengers, while revenue increased by 36%, from 8.5 billion sums to 11.5 billion sums.

It is also worth noting that, starting January 1, 2025, Tashkent's buses no longer accept cash payments.
