About 6.3 million migrants visited Russia in 2024, including approximately 1.5 million citizens of Uzbekistan. This was announced on June 19 by Valentina Kazakova, head of the Main Department for Migration of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, during her speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“We have returned to pre-pandemic figures. In 2024, about 6.3 million foreign citizens will come to the country. About 50 percent of them will come for work,” she said.

According to Kazakova, the majority of foreign citizens are from Uzbekistan (23.3 percent), followed by Tajikistan (16.7 percent), Kyrgyzstan (10.4 percent), and Belarus (9.5 percent).

At the same time, the Russian Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported that migration growth in Russia in 2024 amounted to 568,500 people. In total, 4.081 million people entered the country, while 3.513 million left. Among them, 128,000 people came from Tajikistan, 107,000 from Uzbekistan, and 105,000 from Kyrgyzstan. This indicates that migration growth has increased by 2.8 times compared to 2023.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that more than 638,000 migrant children are currently living in the country. According to Deputy Minister Igor Zubov, 80,282 minor foreigners reside in Moscow, but only 25,000 of them are attending school.

It should be recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated at a meeting with heads of international news agencies that Russia and Uzbekistan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of labor migration.
