Farmer detained for attempting to sell 2 hectares of land for $40,000

A farm owner in Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region has been detained for attempting to illegally sell 2 hectares of land for $40,000, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

According to the statement, the head of a farm enterprise, born in 1976 and residing in Angor district, offered to sell 2 hectares of land under his farm’s management to a buyer for $40,000. He also promised to arrange official registration of the land in the buyer’s name through contacts in the cadastral authorities. The suspect was caught with material evidence while receiving $30,000 and 120 million soums.

Another коррупция-related case was recorded in Sariosiyo district of the same region. In this instance, a local official working in the regional automobile transport control department, born in 1983, promised an acquaintance (born in 1986) not to file an administrative report under Article 198 of the Administrative Liability Code (failure to comply with lawful demands of an official or obstruction of official duties). He also pledged to allow the individual to continue operating informal taxi services until May of this year. In return, he demanded 1 million soums and was detained while receiving the money.

A third bribery case was identified in Sho‘rchi district. A local resident offered to sell 20 sotix (0.2 hectares) of land, which he had been using for years under a temporary lease agreement, to an acquaintance born in 1972 for 250 million soums. He also promised to help secure lifetime usage rights to the land through personal connections. The suspect was detained with material evidence while receiving 230 million soums.

Criminal cases have been initiated against all suspects under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code.

Earlier, on April 6, a similar case was reported in Fergana, where a farmer attempted to sell 3.7 hectares of land as if it were 7 hectares.
