On January 16, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that 16 district and city governors in Uzbekistan have been reprimanded for failing to meet investment and export targets. This came during a videoconference focused on the effectiveness of efforts to attract investments and increase exports, as well as the key tasks for the future.

The meeting highlighted that some district governors had neglected crucial areas of investment and export development. In particular, investments in Beruniy, Karauzak, Kungrad, Peshku, Yangiabad, Kamashi, Khanka, and Shovat districts did not even reach $15 million last year. Furthermore, exports from Romitan, Dehkanabad, Mirishkor, Chirakchi, Narpay, Nurabad, and Gulistan districts, as well as from the city of Ahangaran, saw a decline.

As a result, the governors of these 16 districts and cities were officially reprimanded.

In response to these challenges, a new investment control system will be introduced. The Prime Minister will approve a monthly foreign investment plan of $42 billion for the year, with regional, city, and district governors, as well as sector heads, dedicating two days per week to investment-related activities.

Officials were also urged to make regular visits to the regions, engage directly with entrepreneurs, and resolve issues on-site.

Additionally, it was noted that Syrdarya region Governor Akmaljon Mahmudaliyev was dismissed from his position due to serious shortcomings in attracting investments, developing agriculture, and other activities in his region.
