Authorities uncover 19.5 billion sums in stolen electricity and gas in 1 week

From April 1 to 7, illegal use of energy resources amounting to 19.5 billion sums was halted across Uzbekistan, according to a report from the State Security Service.
The report notes that during raids conducted nationwide in cooperation with the State Security Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Prosecutor General's Office, and "Uzenergoinspection", a total of 2,776 cases were identified. Of these, 1,807 involved electricity theft, and 969 involved illegal use of natural gas, resulting in damages totaling 19.5 billion sums.
As a result of the actions taken, 6.8 billion sums were recovered for the state. During this period, law enforcement agencies initiated 39 criminal cases related to the identified illegal activities across the republic, and 263 administrative penalties were applied. Ongoing raids continue in this direction.
Earlier, in Namangan and Samarkand regions, a bakery and a greenhouse were found to have illegally consumed 2.1 billion sums' worth of natural gas.
