In Uzbekistan, assistant governors (khokims) who had recently been arrested for corruption and fraud will be given special honesty courses.  Such a system has already been initiated.  This is reported by the press service under the Anti-Corruption Agency.

It is noted that between January-May, the governor’s aides had reportedly committed 14 crimes of bribery, malfeasance, and fraud.

To prevent such incidents, the [Anti-Corruption] agency, together with the Agency for neighborhood affairs and business development under the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, established a system of training assistants of regional governors (khokims) in special courses on anti-corruption and honesty.

According to the report, the initial courses were organized on 20 June in Tashkent and Surkhandarya regions (oblasts).  The courses continued in the Kashkadarya region and the Republic of Karakalpakstan on 21 June, and until 1 July in all regions of the country, such courses will be launched.

“The courses focus strongly on anti-corruption rules, new anti-corruption mechanisms, internal anti-corruption structures, the introduction of a system of declaration of property and income of civil servants, and the effective management of conflicts of interest,”- the report says.

It should be recalled at a meeting on 19 April, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev criticized some assistants of local governors for committing extortion of loans, fraud, and the seizure of land.  It should be noted that the position of assistant governor was introduced at the beginning of the year on the proposal of the president.
