Number of deputy governors in Uzbekistan to be reduced

A draft presidential decree aimed at improving the activities of district and city governments has been developed. This was reported by UzA.
According to the draft document, a new system of governance will be introduced in 32 districts and cities by the end of 2026.
As part of the proposed reforms, the territorial divisions of nine ministries and agencies will be transferred to the government structure. These include:
- Ministry of Economy and Finance
- Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade
- Ministry of Agriculture
- Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Employment
- Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services
- Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change
- Ministry of Culture
- Family and Women’s Committee
- Youth Affairs Agency
It is also proposed to reduce the number of deputy district and city governors from the current six to four.
The draft decree further notes that the salaries of governors and employees of governments will be increased under the new system.
