The World Women’s Boxing Championship has ended in New Delhi, India.  Navbahor Hamidova, who defended the honor of Uzbekistan in the 66 kg weight category, won the bronze medal of the tournament.

Hamidova lost her chance against Algerian Imane Halif in the quarterfinals of the competition, but later genetic testing revealed that Imane Halif is a man.  As a result of Halif’s disqualification, Hamidova was presented with a bronze medal.

Interestingly, the Algerian boxer won a silver medal at last year’s World Championship.  He even participated in the Olympic Games, but until now, the authorities have never once thought of conducting a genetic test.
