A total of 12,000 new jobs will be created in the Jizzakh region as part of 200 projects worth \$520 million. This was announced on July 7 during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's review of a report on reform progress, regional development, and population concerns in Jizzakh.
A presidential resolution adopted on December 31, 2023, outlined plans to accelerate the region’s socio-economic development. The resolution set targets including attracting \$2 billion in investment by 2025, increasing exports to \$285 million, and employing 168,000 people.
These goals are now being implemented step by step. Over the past six months, 200 projects in industry, services, and agriculture have been launched in Jizzakh, with a total of \$662 million in investments received.
However, some districts — including Dustlik, Zafarabad, Pakhtakor, and Mirzachul — are lagging behind. The President stressed the importance of prioritizing new projects in these areas to boost employment and development.
Significant progress has also been made in tourism. With the recent commissioning of major tourism complexes worth \$250 million, tourist flows in the region have doubled within one year. Authorities note that conditions are favorable for continued growth.
Another key area of potential is agriculture. Although Jizzakh has 1.3 million hectares of agricultural land, only 40 percent is currently cultivated, and the average income per hectare remains lower than in other regions. Effective land use could significantly boost food and animal feed production.
In line with the President’s initiative, a “Reforms Headquarters” comprising officials, sector specialists, and leading entrepreneurs has been established in the region. At the meeting, the headquarters presented a portfolio of 200 new projects valued at \$520 million.
According to officials, these initiatives will create 12,000 jobs, generate an additional 120 billion soums in tax revenue, and contribute \$100 million in export potential.
“The President reviewed the economic foundations and market relevance of the projects. He emphasized that regional governors and the Reforms Headquarters must work together to make a 'big leap' in industry, agriculture, tourism, and services. If successful, Jizzakh could become one of the country’s fastest-growing regions in terms of investment, job creation, income, and exports,” the report stated.
