More than 8,000 orphans and children deprived of parental care in Uzbekistan, as well as children whose parents died while defending the country’s borders, will receive payments of $200 each into their savings accounts. This was discussed today, May 21, during a presentation to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on proposals to provide social and economic support to vulnerable groups ahead of Eid al-Adha.

The presentation included proposals developed by the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, the National Social Protection Agency, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Association of Mahallas of Uzbekistan and the Vaqf Charitable Public Foundation.

According to the proposals, large-scale measures are planned in connection with Eid al-Adha. These include covering the costs of surgeries for 10,000 children suffering from serious and disabling diseases, medical examinations, treatment and surgical procedures for 2,300 patients diagnosed with oncological, hematological and oncohematological diseases, as well as liver and kidney transplant surgeries for at least 350 patients.

Special attention will also be paid to supporting children in need of social protection. Payments of $200 will be transferred to the savings accounts of more than 8,000 orphans and children deprived of parental care, as well as children whose parents died while defending the country’s borders.

In addition, modern ablution facilities will be built, reconstructed or repaired at 500 mosques to create convenient conditions for worshippers. Improvement works will also be carried out at cemeteries across the country.

Families under state care, elderly people living alone who need outside assistance, single elderly citizens and people with disabilities will be provided with food packages.

These measures will be financed from 690 billion soums allocated to the Vaqf Charitable Public Foundation.

Charity meals for socially vulnerable groups, as well as sacrificial ceremonies at pilgrimage sites and religious educational institutions, are also planned.

The President emphasized that measures related to supporting vulnerable groups, treating patients and assisting children must be organized transparently and in a targeted manner. He gave relevant instructions to responsible officials.
