Birth and marriage rates decline in Uzbekistan

In 2025, Uzbekistan recorded a decline in the number of births and marriages. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice.

According to official statistics, 884,500 children were born in Uzbekistan in 2025, which is a decrease of 5.3 percent compared to 2024 (926,400 births). The decline was observed in almost all regions of the country.

The highest number of births in 2025 was recorded in Samarkand Region (105.8 thousand), Kashkadarya Region (99.0 thousand), and Fergana Region (98.0 thousand).

The lowest figures were registered in Navoi Region (24.1 thousand), Jizzakh Region (36.7 thousand), and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (38.6 thousand).

In Tashkent City, 71.4 thousand children were born, while Tashkent Region recorded 63.5 thousand births. Both figures are lower than those of the previous year.

The share of late parenthood is increasing. In 2025, 6,100 women became mothers after the age of 40. Among men, approximately 600 became fathers after the age of 60.

In addition, the number of marriages in Uzbekistan also declined. In 2025, 267,100 marriages were registered, which is 1.7 percent lower than in 2024 (271,800 marriages), the latter having been the lowest figure in the past 15 years.

At the same time, the number of marriages involving foreign nationals increased significantly. In the first half of 2021, 300 marriages with foreign citizens were registered in the country. This figure rose to 1,900 in 2022, decreased slightly to 1,800 in 2023, and reached 3,400 by 2025.
