Meta may open office in Uzbekistan

Meta, the company behind Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads, may open an office in Uzbekistan. This was reported by the National Agency for Promising Projects.

According to the agency, a meeting was held with representatives of Meta to discuss the prospects of establishing a representative office in Uzbekistan. The sides also discussed strengthening cooperation in preventing fraud in advertising promotion and placement on the company’s platforms, as well as issues related to content monetization and supporting digital content creators in the country.

Meta was represented at the meeting by Sarim Aziz, Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia; Senura Abeywardena, Head of Public Policy for Central Asia, Mongolia, Sri Lanka and the Maldives; Aurora Lee, Head of Government Relations and Social Initiatives for Central Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan; and Erasil Kalikhan, Regional Manager of Public Policy for Central Asia and Mongolia.

Both sides emphasized the importance of establishing direct dialogue and exchanging expertise on regulating digital platforms, protecting users, and developing a fair monetization system. Special attention was paid to digital security, advertising transparency, and promoting responsible online behavior.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue cooperation and explore specific areas of partnership.

It is worth noting that earlier, Pavel Durov announced the opening of Telegram’s artificial intelligence laboratory in Kazakhstan during the Digital Bridge forum in Astana.
