Excavation work for the foundation pit of a power unit with an RITM-200N reactor has started at the construction site in the Jizzakh region, according to the press service of Rosatom.
It was reported that the head of Uzatom, Azim Akhmadkhodjaev, and the Director General of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, officially launched the main stage of the project.
The first stage includes digging a foundation pit for the ASMM power unit equipped with the RITM-200N reactor, which is being built in the Forish district based on a Russian design. Around 1.5 million cubic meters of soil will be excavated, with the foundation depth reaching 13 meters.
“As with all our international projects, a high level of localization is envisaged in the construction of the ASMM. The work is being carried out by Uzbek subcontractors,” said Alexey Likhachev.
Rosatom noted that the plant is designed to operate for at least 60 years, and the company will provide full technical support during its operation.
It is worth noting that on September 26, 2025, during the Global Atomic Forum held as part of World Atomic Week in Moscow, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khojaev announced plans to build two large-capacity and two small-capacity reactors at a single site in the Jizzakh region.
