Working men in Uzbekistan can now take short-term leave to assist their spouses or care for other children when they welcome a new child. This provision is included in the draft law "On Amendments and Additions to the Labor Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan," which was recently submitted to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

Deputy Nadir Tilavoldiev highlighted that the bill aims to support family responsibilities:

"Within a month after the birth of a child in the family, men can take a 5-day leave while preserving their monthly salary. This enables fathers to fully embrace their responsibilities, especially during the early days of welcoming a new member to the family," he explained.

Previously, Uzbekistan’s national legislation did not offer such leave, making it difficult for men to balance their professional and family obligations. Many had to take unpaid time off to be with their families during this crucial time.

The proposed legislation also emphasizes the promotion of equality in labor rights. Key initiatives include:

  • Allowing employers to transfer or dismiss employees who have committed harassment or violence in the workplace.
  • Adding victims of family violence to the list of socially vulnerable groups, ensuring additional guarantees for their employment.

This draft law represents a significant step forward in fostering family-friendly workplace policies in Uzbekistan.
