President Shavkat Mirziyoyev began his official visit to Hungary on May 20 with a meeting involving the heads of major Hungarian companies and banks, according to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

The meeting brought together top executives and founders of key Hungarian enterprises, including OTP Bank, BDPST Group, 4iG, Indotek, MVM, Duna Group, MOL Group, H2O Consortium, Inpark, Wizz Air, and others.

In his remarks, President Mirziyoyev highlighted the symbolic importance of starting the visit with a dialogue with Hungarian business leaders. He welcomed the rapid growth of Hungary’s direct investments in Uzbekistan’s economy.

As part of expanding industrial cooperation and promoting the transfer of advanced technologies, Uzbekistan is establishing a special industrial zone in the Tashkent region dedicated to European companies. Management of this zone will be entrusted to the Hungarian company Inpark.

The President also outlined priority areas for deepening economic ties. These include co-financing joint ventures and supporting the export of finished goods to promising third-country markets.

The importance of enhancing transport connectivity was also noted—particularly through increasing freight shipments and expanding direct air services between Uzbekistan and Hungary.

Agreements were reached on the modernization of transportation and road infrastructure, construction of logistics centers and utility networks, and the implementation of new projects in industries such as building materials, textiles, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.

“We will create all necessary conditions to foster strong relations between the business communities of our two countries,” said President Mirziyoyev.

The meeting concluded with a formal agreement exchange ceremony for launching key investment projects.

It should be recalled that President Mirziyoyev departed for Hungary on May 19 at the invitation of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
