The Mirabad District Court in Tashkent sentenced an Uzbek citizen to 15 days in prison for allegedly disobeying the legal orders of internal affairs authorities in Uzbekistan, even though he was in Russia at the time. Abdurahmon Tashanov, the chairman of the "Ezgulik" society, reported this incident.

Tashanov stated that Umid Rustamov was sentenced to 15 days in jail for minor misconduct and disobeying legal demands from internal affairs officers.

The incident reportedly occurred on April 16 of this year on Said Baraka Street in the Mirobod District of Tashkent. The administrative offense was confirmed by collected materials, witness statements, and reports.

However, Rustamov was in Russia with his family from March 20 to April 25, as confirmed by his passport information.

"In other words, he was 5,000 miles away from our country on the days he was accused of committing hooliganism. This decision was also upheld by the appeals court, and he is not allowed to meet with his lawyer," wrote Tashanov.

The human rights activist explained that this incident is actually part of a broader crackdown on employees of the "Ayol Taxi" company.

"The internal affairs bodies have gathered quick information about the company's employees. It takes time to verify this information and turn employees into suspects. By detaining them for 15 days, further investigations can continue. An administrative case will be brought to court on the charge of 'disobedience,' and the court will legalize the imprisonment. This practice by law enforcement agencies is not new. Nowadays, even this is not seen as a violation of the law. But if the courts had thoroughly checked the documents when 'legislating' the case, would their salaries be honest?" Tashanov wrote.
