Talks between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier were held on June 17 at the Kuksaroy residence, both in a narrow format and with the participation of official delegations. The press service of the Uzbek leader reported this.
According to the report, the meeting considered key issues related to further developing Uzbekistan-Germany cooperation, strengthening political dialogue, and expanding trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties.
The President of Uzbekistan particularly acknowledged the personal contribution of the German President to the consistent development of his country’s and the European Union’s relations with Uzbekistan and Central Asian states, as well as to promoting mutually beneficial interregional cooperation.

It was noted with satisfaction that bilateral dialogue has intensified and relations between the countries have reached a high level. Cooperation in trade and investment is showing steady positive growth. By the end of last year, mutual trade exceeded $1.4 billion and increased by another 5% in the past period of this year. Germany’s investment in Uzbekistan’s economy reached $2 billion in 2025.
Special attention was paid to the importance of the Days of German Economy and the 10th meeting of the Germany-Uzbekistan Business Council held in Tashkent in May. Following the events, a package of new investment and trade agreements worth $1 billion was signed.
Cultural and humanitarian ties are also being consistently strengthened. Today, more than 400,000 young people in Uzbekistan are studying German, while more than 2,000 students are studying at leading German universities. Last year, a forum of universities from the two countries was held for the first time.
The agreement signed last week with a consortium of German universities on the establishment of the Uzbekistan-Germany University of Applied Sciences in Samarkand was described as an important step in developing cooperation in education.
The heads of state noted that both sides are interested in further expanding cooperation in industry, energy and the green economy, transport and logistics, mining, textiles, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, education and healthcare.
The leaders welcomed the launch of new joint projects and programs in the automotive industry, household chemicals production, logistics and the training of qualified personnel. They also supported the holding of the second Universities Forum and the third Uzbekistan-Germany Medical Forum in Tashkent.
The parties also exchanged views on current issues on the regional and international agenda and discussed prospects for cooperation on multilateral platforms, including within the Central Asia-Germany format.
Confidence was expressed that the visit of the Federal President of Germany would open a new stage in the development of bilateral relations and serve to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas of bilateral ties.
