A resident of the Samarkand region has been found responsible for causing 115,125,000 sums in environmental damage after illegally cutting down a plane tree. The regional ecology department's press service reported the incident.

According to officials, the perennial plane tree was growing near a pond in the Khujayuz mahalla of Toylok district. The tree was felled without authorization by a local resident, identified as S.R.

An investigation by state inspectors from the District Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change Inspection confirmed that the illegal logging resulted in significant harm to the environment.

Authorities have since documented the violation and referred the case to law enforcement, as the extent of the damage meets the threshold for criminal prosecution under Uzbekistan’s environmental protection laws.

Previously, a similar case was reported in the Dustlik district of Jizzakh region, where a citizen cut down 13 mulberry trees, causing 738.75 million sums in environmental damage.
