In the early hours of May 9, a powerful gas-air mixture explosion occurred in a residential building located on Spitamen Street in the Bogisaroy Municipal Family Foundation area of Samarkand city, Samarkand region. The incident was reported by the Samarkand Regional Department of Emergency Situations.

According to the report, fire and rescue teams were immediately dispatched after receiving information from the local Fire and Rescue Department. Upon arrival, they began emergency response operations to manage the aftermath of the explosion.

The blast caused a severe kinetic impact, resulting in the collapse of reinforced concrete structures. The explosion damaged all three floors of the building, including the basement. Notably, no fire broke out following the explosion.

Rescue teams later recovered the bodies of six individuals from beneath the rubble.

A task force has been established to address the aftermath, led by the Ministry of Emergency Situations and comprising officials from the regional Emergency Situations Department, the prosecutor’s office, the Department of Internal Affairs, the Department of Health, the National Guard, and the "Hududgazta'minot" gas supply service. Ten fire-rescue vehicles and personnel from the state emergency system were involved in the operation.

A preliminary investigation into the cause of the explosion is currently underway.

It is worth recalling that just two days earlier, on May 7, a ZIL truck caught fire at a fire station in the Kattakurgan district of Samarkand region, resulting in the deaths of two people.
