A mass brawl broke out among Central Asian migrants at a construction site in St. Petersburg, Russia, following a dispute over roofing work and building materials on September 16 of this year. The incident was reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Leningrad region.
According to the statement, the district’s central police department received a call about a fight involving several individuals in the courtyard of building 44 on Ligovsky Avenue. Law enforcement officers detained one resident and 11 men aged between 21 and 41, citizens of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, and took them to the police station.
During the incident, one of the migrants attempted to flee the scene by car, hitting a patrol officer and injuring his elbow joint. However, he was apprehended ’’within minutes.’’
’’According to police findings, the conflict at the construction site on Ligovsky Avenue, building 44, began with a dispute among workers over roofing repairs and the use of materials. When no agreement was reached, the specialists moved from a verbal argument to a physical confrontation, using metal and wooden rods,” the statement said.
Of those taken to the police station, eight migrants were charged with violating migration laws, while four individuals, including the resident, faced administrative liability for disorderly conduct.
During additional inspections of the site and its surrounding areas, including the attic and basement, another seven foreign workers were detained. Two of them were found to have violated migration regulations, while the others faced administrative penalties for petty hooliganism.
A criminal case has now been opened on charges of hooliganism in connection with the brawl. Eight individuals have been identified as suspects, questioned, and taken into custody.
It is worth noting that earlier, a major brawl also took place near the Yanino-1 settlement outside St. Petersburg, involving citizens of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The confrontation between the two groups began near a kindergarten under construction and quickly escalated into a mass fight.
