President congratulates Javohir Sindorov on world cup victory

Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced Javohir Sindorov’s victory at the Chess World Cup during his speech at the opening of the Presidential Olympiad.

Uzbek chess player Javohir Sindorov has won the Chess World Cup, which concluded in Goa, India.

More than 200 players from around the world competed for the top prize at this prestigious tournament. Sindorov advanced all the way to the final, where he faced China’s Wei Yi. The first two games ended in draws, and the winner was ultimately decided in a tiebreak. Sindorov triumphed 1.5–0.5, claiming the World Cup title.

During the tournament, Sindorov defeated strong opponents including Nikita Petrov (Montenegro), Nikolas Theodorou (Greece), Yu Yangyi (China), Frederik Svane (Germany), Jose Martinez Alcantara (Mexico), and Nodirbek Yakubboev (Uzbekistan) to reach the final.

Historically, no Uzbek chess player had ever reached the World Cup final. With this achievement, Sindorov qualifies to participate in the Candidates Tournament scheduled for March 2026.
